MAIA LAPERLE
Hi. I’m Maia.
I craft copy for web, social, blogs, newsletters, and multimedia. Hey, wait a minute, here’s some right now!

I also produce videos and podcasts from start to finish. Yes, that’s pre- through post production for all you film buffs and audiophiles out there. I make sure narratives are engaging, strategic, and polished for publication. Plus, I manage teams and timelines like a (very thoughtful and caring) boss.
But aside from writing and multimedia, I love bringing all kinds of big ideas to life. Whether it’s dialogue journalism, interactive theatre, or self-directed K-12 education, I’ve enjoyed swimming in all sorts of creative waters. So, please, bring me your creative challenges, your communication issues, and your wildest ideas.

If you’re looking for something a bit more unfiltered, check out my personal newsletter, Baby Genius Book Club, where I apply literary criticism to picture books because someone has to.
Are you a harsh critic who wants your child to be as smart and discerning as you? Do you enjoy dissecting literature but choosing books for adults feels like too much work? Sure, you may already be capable of reading to children, but are you able to bring just as much zeal and fervor to your 47th reading of Brown Bear, Brown Bear as you brought to your very first time? I review classic and new children's books with the judgment they deserve, giving adults who read to kids a primer on all the difficult talking points, unexpected rhyme schemes, and interesting context that keeps story time fresh.

TL;DR it's like CliffsNotes for picture books!
If you scrolled down here, you may be looking to learn a little more about me. And I'm flattered! So here we go:
Much like the three little pigs, I've learned (after some regretfully-flimsy first attempts) that the best material to build a story out of is bricks. I bring this masonry-style approach to all of my storytelling efforts, from documentary filmmaking and podcast production to writing ad copy and newsletters.
I like telling deep, nuanced, and thoughtful stories and I also like to entertain people in a very un-serious way. Sometimes I get to do both of these things at the same time. I have a special interest in documenting people who find ways to live outside of or build alternatives to societal systems that don't serve them well.
As a copywriter, I've written video scripts for brands like New Balance, Michaels, Geiger Institute, and WebEx. I earned my master's in multimedia journalism from The University of Oregon and my bachelor's in fine arts from Massachusetts College of Art & Design.
